Postcards from the Abyss - III

DansL'Oubliette (Jeremiah 29:28)
January 30, 2008 e.v.

A vital observation...
An oubliette is a type of dungeon, so Dans L'Oubliette means in the dungeon. As dungeons go, the oubliette has to be the worst kind, with no way out except an opening in the roof. There is one of these in Warwick castle in England as well as several examples in France.

The oubliette was impossible to escape from without outside help. No jumping through hoops here: one had to be rescued by another's hands, through the single light-filled space above!
